it's a slight darkening around the fringes, for example when the aperture is really small and more light falls on the middle part of the film / CCD than the outer parts ... some people use this to bring more focus onto the subject matter ... but lol even if you didn't mean it, it's neat :D

no you apply it with a program such as photoshop or the GIMP afterwards, though some cameras (such as your own) have it as a side effect of the aperture.
